Jack Hill
born: 12 September 1887
Roanoke, Virginia,
United States of America
died: 22 November 1963
Los Angeles, California,
United States of America
(age 76)

American actor, stand-in and stunt double with distinctively big ears who was seen just about everywhere in the films of Hal Roach of the 1920s and 1930s.  He was frequently lurking around as an extra in the background, almost to the point where you almost expected to see him in every film!  He had blue eyes and brown hair, according to his war record.  He married several times.

His parents were John P. Hill (b. J
anuary 30, 1860 in Smyth, Virginia; died 1925) - and Arkansas Missouri "Connie" Paxton (b. April 15, 1865 in Smyth, Virginia; died March 11, 1958 in Los Angeles, California).

Jack registered for the first World War draft on June 5, 1917.  He lived at 1959 Estulla [?], Los Angeles, California; giving his birth date as September 12, 1887, in Roanoke, Virginia; is married, and works as a "mechanic (actor)" at Keystone Film Co. (at 1712 Alesandro, L.A.)

In the 1940 Census, he is now 52 and is still in L.A. working as a stunt man at a motion picture studio and earning $1000.

On April 27, 1942, Laurence Young Hill registered for the WWII draft. The 53-year old Hill lives at 812 - W. 4th Los Angeles, L.A., Calif. and was born Sept. 12, 1887 in Marion, VA.  He is employed by Central Casting Corp., Hollywood & Western, Hollywood, CA.  He is 6'0", weighs 180 pounds, has blue eyes, brown hair and a "ruddy" complexion; he also has a tattoo of a woman on his inner left forearm.  Also, the employer and person who would know his address seem to be mixed up on the card; if so, the contact (not the employer) is given as a "Josephine Hill," at the same address. Now: who is this? Girlfriend?  ANOTHER wife?  Relative?  Another sister?

He died the same day that President J.F. Kennedy was assassinated.  I wonder if it was before - or after, and whether he knew about it?
His CA Death Index entry claims a birth year of 1891, though his entry in the Social Security Death Index retains the birth year 1887.
Real name: Lawrence Young Hill
