[the following plot summary was from a 4-minute fragment of the film available for review] Husband James Parrott and wife Jobyna Ralston visit her father's real estate office to lease a property. The father (WALLACE HOWE) takes them to a house and shows them around but when a black cat runs past him the husband gets momentarily scared. The couple are shown upstairs and when then return to the ground floor they are surprised by about a dozen 'guests' who file out from various rooms to greet them. A huge gust of wind from an open window causes the floor to expand and the husband to grab a rifle (where from?) and head upstairs. A flying white sheet in a closet is enough to send him straight back down the stairs, along with one of the guests. Pandemonium breaks out among all those present as everybody starts running around scared. Eventually, the husband and wife escape the house and take refuge by the side of the road. | Trivia • Copyrighted October 11, 1922. • The fragmented version which is available on the "American Slapstick 2" DVD is not only incomplete but is also missing a considerable amount of footage that is available elsewhere. In compiling this review I used both versions of the film to make one version using all the available footage and it runs at 3 minutes 47 seconds. Still only approximately one third of the original film. • This is the first appearance in a Roach film for both Jack Hill AND Katherine Grant. My opinion • None of it makes a whole lot of sense! |
