died: 21 February 1983

(age 86)

Prolific leading lady of the 1920s, mostly in the silent short films produced by Hal Roach.  It was alleged that she was at one point engaged to co-star actor Snub Pollard, but an interview with her published in Picture-Play magazine in May 1922 she denied this rumour [the article is listed below in the links section at the bottom of this page].  She holds the record for the most appearances in a Hal Roach-produced film by a female actress.

After a rocky marriage to a Roy A. Harlow (from 1923 to 1926/7), she married inventor Lee de Forest in 1930; considered the happiest of his four marriages, it lasted the rest of his life, ending with his death in 1961.  Afterwards, Marie donated his papers and prototypes to the Perham Foundation, now held at History San Jose.
Height: 5'4" Films listed on this page: complete Hal Roach filmography.

Jesse Brisson (help and information; identification in Spring Fever, All At Sea, Our Congressman, Before Breakfast, Count Your Change and The Mysterious Mystery!)
At least one source lists her as the maid in Harold Lloyd's "From Hand To Mouth" (1919). I dispute this.
At least one source lists her in Snub Pollard's "Get Busy" (1924). I dispute this.
