Tough Luck

Ten cops are on parade in the middle of a street when a car speeds past them. The cops react with anger but are brought to order by their commanding officer (Sammy Brooks) by the side of the road. A motorcycle rider then drives past them through a puddle and gets them all wet before a second bike slides into the puddle and crashes. Another car pulls up and a wealthy-looking lady steps out, as the cops give chase on foot to the driver of the motorcycle (Snub Pollard) through the streets of Los Angeles (according to an intertitle card). Two black children are introduced as a squabbling husband and wife who are accosted by Snub. He pays them money to hide inside their laundry basket and they cover him up just as the cops arrive at the house and begin searching for him.
The cheeky boy even gets a cop to help pick up the basket and load it onto his cart so that he can push it away down the sidewalk and mow down all the cops. Snub falls out of the basket with a crash. The cops resume their chase of Snub, who hides behind a wooden fence and clubs them all one by one as they emerge. The film ends when there are no more cops left to fight and Snub walks off triumphantly.

Copyrighted January 2, 1920.
This was the ninth film in the series to be released.
Approximately 4 minutes of footage from the film was available to me for review.
The black girl in the film is unidentified. I thought it may be Ernest Morrison's sister, Dorothy, but she was born in January 1919 - and the film was shot when she would have been 10 months old, so it cannot be her.
