It's the first day of school, and the kids are apprehensive about the arrival of their new teacher, Miss Crabtree. Jackie (Cooper) is picked up by Crabtree by the side of the road and is driven to school, without him realising who she is. Jackie tells the woman he doesn't like the name "Crabtree" and produces a hand-drawn picture of what he thinks she will look like. He also spills the beans on what pranks the other kids have in store for their new teacher. At the schoolhouse, Chubby and Echo are going over what they are going to say to the teacher, when Jackie arrives and tells them he just met a beautiful woman. Miss Crabtree overhears the conversation and is struck by the boy's sincerity. The bell rings to begin school and the children assemble in the classroom.
The new teacher introduces herself and when Jackie realises who she is, he ducks underneath the table in embarrassment! She instructs poor Jackie, who obviously has formed a crush on her, to rat out his friends and for them to give up their various pranking devices. Jackie is sent home from school by the teacher, whilst the rest of the class enjoy ice cream and cake. But all ends well when Miss Crabtree sees Jackie sitting, slumped by a tree outside and he expresses his remorse.

• Copyrighted November 24, 1930.
• Also made as Spanish version entitled Comenzo la escuela, which used the English original with full-frame cut-in titles, but wasn't accepted by MGM for release in this format.
• Film number 101 in the series.
• Ah, those good old days when a child can be picked up by a total stranger in her car and driven off without any fear.
