American child actor, the brother of Consuelo Dawn. In the 1940 U.S. Census, Andrew is working as a makeup artist for motion picture studios (like his stepfather). He later served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. He is interred at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Andrew and Consuelo's parents were Maria Francisca Herminia (née Arnaiz, 1887-1983) and physician/surgeon Dr. Wallace Archibald Dunton (1868-1947); they married in 1907 and separated in 1914, divorcing a year later. By 1920, Herminia had re-married to William Horace Ely (1884-1968), film casting director and makeup artist; Ely was the brother of Annie Carter and Roach/Harold Lloyd casting director Leonore "Nora" Ely (1881-1933), the half-brother of Ed Bumps, and the son of W.H. Ely. Andrew and Consuelo's step-cousins (Nora's children) were Olaf Shuler and Regena Shuler. "The Harold Lloyd Encyclopedia" mis-transcribes his surname as "Duton." |
