| American comic actor, the brother of Three Stooges actors Moe Howard and Curly Howard. An original member of the team with Moe and Larry Fine during their days with Ted Healy, Shemp originally left the act in 1932 (Curly replaced him) and enjoyed a decent solo career as a supporting player until he returned to the Three Stooges in 1946 after Curly suffered a debilitating stroke; Shemp remained the "third Stooge" until his own sudden death in 1955. |
