American actor. In 1933 he was struggling in Hollywood and in desperation "jumped" a movie studio fence and talked the director of a Will Rogers movie ("State Fair") to give him a part which resulted in acting work in 5 more Will Rogers' movies and a good career as a character actor. In 1936, he married "Miss Detroit", a new actress in Los Angeles. They divorced in about a year. She claimed "cruelty"; that he would read movie scripts in bed causing her to lose sleep and "mess up" her early movie calls. In 1938, she sued a movie producer who promised marriage for $200,000 but settled out of court and planned to remarry Frank Melton. This never came about and he married another woman, became an insurance salesman and had 2 children.
