American silent screen comedy actor, remembered best for being the original chief of the Keystone Kops.
His 1918 WWI Draft Card gives his printed name and signature as "George Franklin Sterling", otherwise his middle name is given as "F." or "Ford". His 1920 passport application gives his height as 5' 11" for his trip to Europe as a buyer and official sales representative for a sporting goods company.
For 18 months, 1938/39, he was hospitalized for thrombosis of the veins which brought on gangrene of the left foot and amputation of the left leg above the knee. An autopsy was used
to determine if he died from thrombosis, for which he had been treated, or a heart attack. His wife, "Teddy Sampson Sterling" of the same address signed as "informant" on his death
certificate. Their marriage went through many "ups and downs".
