📕 Plot summary:
In Georgia 1948, an elderly Jewish widow named Miss Daisy Werthan (JESSICA TANDY) has a self-inflicted accident when she crashes her car in her driveway. As a result of this, her son Boolie (DAN ACKROYD) enlists the help of a black chauffeur by the name of Hoke Colburn (MORGAN FREEMAN) to drive his mother around. The problem is, the independent Miss Daisy is so stubborn that she refuses any assistance from him. She relentlessly berates and belittles Hoke every chance she gets, often with unintentional humour but over time Miss Daisy mellows out enough to be slightly more cooperative and forms an unlikely friendship with Hoke.

💥 Standout scene(s):
The scene where Dan Ackroyd is left standing in the kitchen holding a tin of salmon. What a brilliant scene. Miss Daisy summons Boolie to her house to accuse Hoke of stealing a tin of salmon from her pantry but Hoke turns up at the house and explains that not only did he take the food but he had been to the store to replace it for her that morning. Miss Daisy walks off leaving Boolie standing there with the empty tin in his hands. It's Dan Ackroyd's reactions that steal the scene!

🙂 Personal opinion:
Simply charming. It's a very different type of film from those I have reviewed in this project. For one thing, there is no violence, no sex or nudity, no bad language and no nasty stuff. Just a beautifully-told story with fine performances from all the actors involved. The chemistry between Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman is just fabulous to watch. It's not the type of movie everybody will embrace but it's out there to be discovered and what a gem it is.
'Hoke, you're my best friend', is the best line in the movie.

Did it deserve the Oscar?
✅YES.
