Tall, blonde American actress and dancer, known as "The Elongated Comedienne" and "The Gay Nineties Fashion Plate," who had success as an eccentric dancer and comic performer on stage and occasionally in film through the 1940s. Her parents were Harriet (née Nicholson) and Harry Barlow, both stage performers; after Harry's death in 1909, Harriet re-married to Chot Eldridge, also a performer. Violet's paternal grandfather was minstrel and vaudeville performer Milt G. Barlow, and her uncle (Harry's brother/Milt's other son) was stage and screen actor Reginald Barlow. Violet initially performed with her mother and stepfather in the vaudeville trio of Eldridge, Barlow & Eldridge; she later partnered with Billy Benter, who became her second husband. After her entertainment career, Violet changed gears and became an interior designer. She was married twice, first to Lloyd Knapp in 1923 to around 1929, then to Benter from 1932 to 1960; both marriages ended in divorce. After her 1963 passing, she was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
Her surname has also been spelled "Barlowe."
