Pint-sized Welsh actress. Records mentioning her birth vary from 1871 when she and her husband Peter E Jones (a miner) were passengers on the SS Germanic from Liverpool, England (born Wales) to Slatington, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1903 to 1881 in the 1940 US Census (age 61). The 1950 US Census and her CA Death Certificate both give a birth year of 1875. In 1943, for her US Citizenship Application (under oath), she says she was born "26 November 1876". She also says she sailed on the "Cedric". I think this was a memory error of many years and actually the Germanic. The earliest mention of her age I've found is the 1903 passenger's list on the SS Germanic which would indicate an 1870 birth year. In her 1943 citizenship application she legally changed her first name to "Tiny". |
