American actor, a World War I veteran. In February 1932, he was reported missing by his wife after he went out to seek work and she didn't hear from him for a number of hours. A day or two later, she received a postcard from him in Santa Barbara, where he looked for work in a hospital. After his 1949 passing, in a Modesto hospital after a "long illness," he was buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.
Note about his birth name: There are several spelling variants on his natural surname, with various records giving either Rocheford, Rochford, or Rockford. He also went by the middle name of either Francis (1928 marriage, 1932 article; plus initial "F" in 1890 NY Census, 1900 Census, and 1930 Census) or Joseph (WWI draft reg. card, 1926 military home record, Numident File, U.S. Vets Adm. Master Index).
