American actress, reportedly a ward and protege of William Wrigley, Jr., of chewing gum fame. Her parents were Dorothy Abbie Davidson (1891-1968) and Marion Oscar King (1887-1970), who married on 6 March 1907 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida; Dorothy was given a divorce decree on 26 July 1912 in Crowley County, Colorado. Evelyn had two (half? step?) brothers, Robert Alexander Davidson (1911-1993) and Edwin Orville Davidson (1915-1993). Evelyn was married several times: -- She married Charles Pollock on 20 June 1931 in Reno, Nevada; Evelyn divorced him in January 1932 in Los Angeles (papers reported on how this was a reverse of the usual "Reno divorce" scenario). -- Newspapers in June 1933 reported Evelyn was to soon marry Adrian French (1906-2001) of Cincinnati, but I have yet to find evidence of this union actually occurring. Reports from late 1934 claim she was "recently divorced," and that her next marriage to Richard Beckett was "her FOURTH leap." (Even assuming the French marriage occurred, that still leaves one unaccounted for here.) -- Her next knot-tying was with Richard Beckett (1908-1937) on 9 November 1934 in Cook County, Illinois. Richard died on 1 April 1937 in Eppards Point, Illinois from skull and other injuries after he leapt through the back windshield of a moving bus (death certificate says "probably suicidal"; verdict of temporary insanity was reached after inquiry). -- Her next husband was Alfred John Pirovano (1912-1984), whom she married on 14 March 1939 in Monterey, California; they separated 5 April 1941. -- Next was William A. Galloway, whom she married on 10 December 1943 in Clark County, Nevada; Evelyn divorced him in October 1945. -- Her final marriage was to Robert Milton Pearce, Jr. (1910-1974) on 11 October 1952 in Hollywood, California. It appears this lasted until Robert's passing 22 years later. Evelyn and Robert Pearce are interred together at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California. For some reason, on Evelyn's death records and Los Angeles Times death notice, she had an alternate surname of Sykes. |
