Short, blonde American stuntwoman and actress. One of her primary specialties was horseback work, although she did various types of stunts doubling for Mabel Normand, Priscilla Dean, Mary Pickford, Marion Davies, Colleen Moore, Marie Prevost, Florence Vidor, Viola Dana, Madge Bellamy, Lucille Ricksen, and other actresses. Sipple's work doubling for Mary Pickford led to one of her more unusual assignments: in 1925, Sipple was assigned to foil a plot by three kidnappers to nab the star for a $200,000 ransom (equivalent to over $3.6 million in 2025) by being fitted with a wig of golden curls and taking a ride in Pickford's chauffeured automobile to and from her and Douglas Fairbanks' residence. The kidnappers, spotting what appeared to be their quarry, followed along only to be surrounded and arrested by police. On 19 April 1927, Sipple was boarding a streetcar when her hand was slammed in its door, impairing it and curtailing her work as a stuntwoman, and in July she consequently sued the Pacific Electric Railway Company for $10,000 (equivalent to over $185,000 in 2025). She was still working as a motion picture actress as late as 1950 (per that year's U.S. Census). She is interred at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood, California. |
